Our history

Old archives and pictures exist surprisingly little of today. But in all probability it has probably been taxi business in Voss for over 100 years if not longer, history suggests that Voss Taxi Owners' Association was founded on February 10, 1930. Here it is a bit unclear where they were stationed, but from what we can tell from old documents are that they ended up at the fish market, and later behind Voss bookstore. Much of the team's history was lost during the bombing of Vossevangen during World War II. After the war, the taxi owners' association joined forces with the Voss Truck Association for an agreement with Norwegian Fuel Oil (BP) today, Statoil, on a separate petrol tank in exchange for filling it exclusively with this. The agreement also provided housing for the taxi drivers in the form of a barrack that they received from (BP). The barracks were located on Hestavangen in the early 50's. But from old photos it may seem that they were already on Hestavangen around 1937. In the sixties, Dr. Bonsaksen tried to build a health center on the site where the taxis were located. There was then a clause in the purchase contract with the Municipality that the drivers should benefit from the first floor when the new building was completed.

It was then in 1968 that the barracks were moved west to the square, where it still stands to this day. This was to be an intermediate move until new housing was completed. But when the building was finished and ready for occupancy, it would turn out to the taxis that the premises were not suitable enough, it was too big and the rent would be too high, considering they paid per square meter. Former employees BP had been involved in keeping housing for the drivers, but they thought that this increase in rent was unreasonable in that way. There were and are planning in those days about underground toilet facilities with the taxis on top of this. But this was never any of it either.

So after a longer treatment time and several letters between the municipality, the taxis, Dr. Bonsaksen etc., the whole house slipped the question into the blue and the drivers remained in the cabin until the winter of 2014. Then they finally got to come home, as they say. Where they were from the beginning and where they were originally promised new shelter. These days, former doctor Valland is the host for the taxis in Voss.
